What to Expect

Psychological testing at Rooted includes three components:

Initial Clinical Interview - The initial interview consists of obtaining background information and discussing present concerns to determine if testing is clinically indicated. If testing is recommended, we will explain the tests to be administered as well as requesting relevant records (past assessments, medical records, teacher observations, reports cards, etc.).

Psychological Testing - Testing is is typically scheduled over 2 3-hour blocks (up to 6 hours total).

Feedback Session - The feedback session will consist of reviewing and discussing test results and personalized recommendations in detail. You will leave this session with a better understanding of strengths and challenges as well as pragmatic short and long term support strategies and recommendations. Additionally, you will receive an extensive written report that outlines all findings, diagnoses, and tailored recommendations.

How To Begin:

Step 1

Complete a psychological testing inquiry form here. Our team will review the inquiry to determine if testing at Rooted is recommended and, if yes, we will send you scheduling date/time options for the initial clinical interview.

Step 2

Prior to the clinical interview, an email will be sent to you with a link to a private client portal in which you will complete initial paperwork and inventories prior to your interview session.

Step 3

Complete releases of information / provide supplemental records and information requested for comprehensive history of concerns.

Step 4

Complete the psychological testing sessions. This is typically done over two, 3-hour blocks.

Step 5

Attend the feedback session to discuss findings, ask questions and review recommendations.

Our evaluations are conducted by licensed psychologists who are specially trained in administering and interpreting a wide range of psychological assessments.
A psychological evaluation typically begins with a parent-only clinical interview, followed by a series of standardized tests. These tests assess different aspects of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning. Background and supplemental information may also be gathered and considered in forming diagnostic impressions. After testing, the psychologist will review the results with parents and provide a detailed report with recommendations for treatment or interventions.
The cost of psychological testing varies based on the complexity and length of the evaluation.
For example:
- Testing for ADHD and learning disabilities typically ranges from $1,800 to $3,000
The exact cost will depend on the specific tests required and the time involved in conducting the evaluation.
For families with an in-network insurance plans, a significant portion of the cost may be covered by insurance. As part of the inquiry process, our client care coordinators will verify benefits and provide a cost estimate.
Coverage varies based on your specific insurance policy and the reason for the evaluation.
Rooted is currently in-network with BCBS, BCN, Priority Health, Aetna, and McLaren.
We recommend contacting your insurance provider to confirm the details of your coverage. Our team can also assist in verifying benefits prior to scheduling testing.
Under many insurance plans, testing fees will first apply toward any remaining deductible before insurance coverage begins. As a result, families with higher deductible plans may have significant out-of-pocket costs for testing. We strongly encourage families to contact their insurance company's Member Services department to understand their testing benefits and expected costs before scheduling.
