Hey there,
I BECAME A THERAPIST BECAUSE BEING A HUMAN CAN BE HARD.
When I first meet with a client, the most important thing for me is to connect with them using compassion, understanding, and empathy. I strive to create a safe trusting atmosphere where people can be themselves and talk about what is on their mind without fear of judgement. I use a strength-based approach to help individuals reach their personal goals. While I enjoy working with a wide range of people, I have a particular fondness for and years of experience helping older teens and young adults as they find their way in the world. This time of life often brings both exciting opportunities and plenty of challenges. I love helping people develop from anxious teens into confident and competent adults.
I am trained in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) with an attachment lens. I have experience treating OCD, trauma, anxiety and depression and working with people adjusting to life, work or family changes. In addition, I have worked at the college level teaching study, stress management and interpersonal skills; facilitating career exploration; helping BIPOC students adjust to a predominantly white institution; and linking students to the resources they need to be successful on and off campus.
When I am not at work, I enjoy gardening, walking, reading, and calling my two grown daughters, who live out of state. My husband and I love to travel, garden, and try new restaurants.
Education: I received my Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from Michigan State University, my Master of Science degree in Education, and Bachelor of Science in Education at the University of Kansas.
